General Skilled Migration scheme
The Skilled Independent visa is a permanent residency visa for those with qualifications and skills in demand. Applicants are required to pass a points test and do not require sponsorship.
Skilled Nominated Subclass 190
Individuals who do not meet the pass mark for the Skilled Independent visa may be eligible to be sponsored by a participating State or Territory government. This category is also available to applicants who are able to meet the pass mark but wish to access priority processing.

Criteria for Skilled Migration
Applicants who want to migrate to Australia as skilled migrants must meet strict threshold criteria.

The main criteria is as below:
Age
You must be aged between 18 and 44 at the time of invitation.
English Language Ability

SkillSelect
Applicants are required to go through the SkillSelect before they lodge their visa application. As part of SkillSelect, they are required to Express their Interest and when invited by the Department of Immigration to make a visa application.
